Our group focuses its research in organic synthesis, concentrating its efforts in new domino processes and organocatalysis. One of the aims of our group is to develop new efficient methodologies for the diversity oriented synthesis of small molecules possessing a certain degree of structural and functional diversity and potential biological activity (synthesis of privileged structural motives). Another main goal of the research group is the study of organocatalytic and multicomponent reactions in aqueous media (racemic and asymmetric versions). In this aspect the group concentrates its efforts in the understanding of the non-covalent interactions between the organocatalyst and the substrates in the presence of water.
All the small molecules synthesized in our laboratory are tested for different biological activities in collaborations with other groups/institutions.
